Who we are
Our name, Chiedza (pronounced chee-ed-za) comes from the African Shona word for “light”, such as the light of day or the light within. We believe that by shedding light on technological challenges, we can help people understand and resolve them with confidence. This philosophy guides what we do, from offering well-explained repair services, remote assistance and computer sales. We understand how essential computers are in daily life and we believe that everyone deserves access to systems they can depend on.
We’re passionate about helping people use technology to grow, learn, and connect. Computers have the power to improve our lives immensely through knowledge acquisition, but when they stop working properly, that critical aspect of life is interrupted. That’s why we’re committed to offering dependable repair services that extend the life and performance of both new and aging systems. We always operate with fairness, honesty, and care at the core of our business.
FAQ
Do you work on Apple Mac computers?
Yes, we do work on and recommend Macs to customers who enjoy Apple products. Their build quality and processing power are excellent for their price. They can be more difficult to work on due to their locked down design and parts availability. If an Apple product is suitable for your needs, then you will likely be happy with them!
Why don’t you sell new low-cost laptops?
We focus on offering a balance between affordability and quality. Most new entry level computers are built with low-end components which results in poor performance and short lifespans. Our low-cost laptops are refurbished business-class machines which are made with higher-grade parts and designed to last. We also understand that not everyone wants a used computer, so for new purchases we recommend higher tier consumer laptops or business computers.
Why don’t you sell budget desktop PCs?
We build our desktop systems using reliable, name-brand components to ensure long-term durability and performance. Many mass-market prebuilt systems cut corners with low-quality power supplies, hard drives, and other parts that may not last. Alongside quality hardware, we also provide responsive local tech support. This means that if there’s ever a problem, we’ll come to you to diagnose and resolve it on the spot. If the issue requires more work, we’ll handle pickup and delivery to your location. Please note: our desktop sales and services are available only to local customers in Dutchess County NY and nearby at this time.
Why don’t you offer a desktop PC with an entry level Nvidia GeForce RTX 5060, or any AMD GPUs?
We do not offer gaming or media creation computers with AMD GPUs because we build computers that can be used for a variety of tasks, not just gaming. For example, Nvidia GPUs generally operate better with photo and video editing applications, as well as AI related content creation. Additionally, we do not offer entry level GPUs in prebuilts due to their 8GB of VRAM and overall subpar long-term performance. These cards are often insufficient for an enjoyable gaming experience, so we recommend mid-tier GPUs (e.g. Nvidia ‘70 series). This is especially true given the relatively inexpensive 1440p resolution monitors available now. If you would like a gaming computer with an AMD GPU, or a budget gaming PC with a 5060, we can build one for you on demand.
Why don’t you offer shipping for desktop computers?
Shipping desktop PCs can be risky as heavy and sensitive components don’t always travel well. We’ve found that the time, cost, and potential damage involved simply isn’t worth it for us or our customers at this time. Instead, we encourage supporting your local computer shop for custom builds and desktop purchases.
Can I sell my computer to you?
Yes. We’re happy to consider buying your computer based on its condition and current market value. For example, if a system typically sells for $200 on eBay, we might offer around $150, allowing room for necessary refurbishment and resale. If you’d prefer to earn more, you’re always welcome to sell it directly through local marketplaces or eBay.
Do you accept device donations?
Absolutely. Even older computers that seem outdated can often be refurbished and put to good use. We’re passionate about giving technology a second life and someone without a computer will be grateful for the opportunity to use one.
Where is your physical location?
We operate from our private residence, which is why you’ll see our postal address listed instead of a storefront. For your convenience, we offer local pickup and drop-off repair services as well as mail in repairs. Many of our customers prefer this flexible approach, especially when travel is difficult or time is limited.
